ADFC bicycle climate test 2024: Your opinion counts for more safety!

The ADFC bicycle climate test 2024 started on September 1st and runs until November 30th. During this time, all citizens are invited to share their experiences and opinions on the cycling situation in their community. The survey is online at www.fkt.adfc.de available. Here, participants can rate, among other things, how safe they feel while cycling, how wide the cycle paths are and how easily the destinations can be reached by bike.

The survey contains 27 questions and takes approximately ten minutes. After participating, respondents have the opportunity to sign up for a newsletter to be informed about the results. In spring 2025, the most bicycle-friendly cities and communities in various size classes will be honored at the Federal Ministry of Transport in Berlin.

Focus: togetherness in traffic

A central theme this year is coexistence in traffic. The survey contains specific questions aimed at how cyclists perceive the behavior of other road users. This examines whether the behavior is considerate and whether the necessary distance is maintained when overtaking. This information is important to improve coexistence on the streets.

Every vote cast is crucial to show that citizens want to see improvements to bike-friendly infrastructure. A well-developed cycle path network is not only environmentally friendly, but also contributes to everyone's quality of life and road safety.

The ADFC carries out this test every two years, and 2024 will be the eleventh edition. The Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport supports the test as part of the National Cycling Plan. The ADFC bicycle climate test is considered an important indicator of the satisfaction of cyclists in Germany.

Around 245,000 people took part in the last test in 2022, resulting in a comprehensive ranking of the most bike-friendly cities and communities. The results of the last two surveys for Bavaria are available on the ADFC Bayern website.
