Major A93 construction site: renovation will bring traffic jams and diversions from September!

The renovation of the A93 motorway between Regensburg and the Saalhaupt triangle will begin in September 2025, especially the road towards Weiden. The measure is scheduled for the period from early September to early October 2025. As the municipality of Lappersdorf reports, the renovation includes the removal of the old asphalt surface and binder course, which will be replaced by new road surfaces. This is carried out by the Regensburg branch of Autobahn GmbH and is necessary to ensure traffic safety on this busy section.

Autobahn GmbH also provides information about the exact details of the renovation work. From March 23, 2025, there will initially only be one lane in the direction of Regensburg, while two narrowed lanes will be set up in the opposite direction from March 19. These restrictions particularly affect the Regensburg South junction and the Regensburg motorway junction, whose traffic situation will remain tense until mid-May 2025.

Scope of work and traffic routing

The first phase of the work, which starts with the start of the renewal of the old concrete roadway in the direction of Regensburg at the beginning of April 2025, is considered essential by Autobahn GmbH. The existing road substructure is to be demolished and replaced to a depth of 1.50 meters. The drainage systems and the underpass structures will also be modernized in this context.

From mid-March 2025, there will be significant traffic restrictions on an eleven-kilometer section of the A93, which has been in operation since 1984. Drivers must be prepared for increased noise pollution during the work, especially when the old roadway is being demolished. There is a risk of traffic jams, especially in the direction of Regensburg/Hof in front of the Saalhaupt triangle.

Recommendations for road users

Autobahn GmbH asks all users of the A93 to stay on the motorway in the event of a traffic jam and to avoid detours. In addition, due to the existing construction work, it will not be possible to block certain destinations or vehicle license plates, and it should be noted that there is no space for a fourth lane. Regional road users are recommended to consider local public transport (ÖPNV).

The work on the section between the Regensburg-Süd junction and the Saalhaupt triangle is expected to be completed by mid-December 2025.
