Last help in Hemau: course and information caravan about the end of life
In the city of Hemau, special attention is paid to the topics of illness, death and dying in October. As part of the “Caring City of Hemau” project, a campaign is being carried out under the motto “This is palliative”. This initiative aims to bring important but often unpleasant topics into public discussion. On October 16th and 17th there will be an information caravan in the town square of Hemau, and on October 31st it will also be present at the Spitzlmarkt. In addition, a “last aid” course will take place on October 17th, which will deal with the challenges at the end of life.
The organizers, Petra Lerner and Yvonne Lenk, are multipliers in the “Caring City of Hemau” project. They are committed to ensuring that palliative care is accessible to everyone. “We want to create a caring community in which everyone has the opportunity to address end-of-life issues,” explains Lerner. The initiative aims to reduce fears of contact and promote dialogue about these sensitive topics.
Info caravan and exchange
The information caravan is a joint project by “Letzte Hilfe Deutschland” and the “German Society for Palliative Medicine”. Its task is to sensitize society to the topics of serious illness, death and dying. At the caravan, visitors have the opportunity to talk to the initiators and receive information. This is intended to help people better prepare for the challenges of the end of life.
A central element of the campaign is the “Last Aid” course, which takes place on October 17th. This course is comparable to a first aid course, but it focuses on supporting people in the final phase of their lives. It addresses important questions such as: What happens when someone dies? What support is there? And how can I help? The modules of the course are divided into the topics “Dying as a part of life”, “Preparation and decision-making”, “Relieving suffering” and “Saying farewell”.
The course is free and is aimed at anyone between the ages of 16 and 110. It will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Bürgersaal of the Hemauer Zehntstadel. Registrations can be made by contacting Petra Lerner on 0151/42880326 or directly at the information caravan.
