Hemauer Spitzlmarkt 2025: A festival for the palate and tradition!
On October 31, 2025, the town center of Hemau will be transformed into a pedestrian zone when the popular Hemauer Spitzlmarkt takes place. The market is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers a colorful mix of tradition and regional cuisine. The focus is on the traditional diamond-shaped pastries, the Spitzln, which are offered in different variations. Visitors can also look forward to other culinary delights such as bratwurst rolls and Hungarian langos.
Around 25 market stalls invite visitors to discover regional products, handicrafts, delicatessen and autumn decorations. Items available for purchase include hats, gloves, socks, basketry, brushes, brooms and All Saints' Day arrangements. The Jura family base will have an information stand to appeal to younger visitors.
Historical roots and tradition
The Hemauer Spitzlmarkt has a long tradition that began in 1630. It commemorates the anniversary of the death of Saint Bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg and has been officially registered as a Spitzlmarkt since 1972. Originally, the Spitzl were baked as gifts for the deceased, but later they developed into loving offerings that were given away between people who showed affection. Similar traditional events such as the Spitzlmarkt in Kelheim and Dietfurt take place in the Hemau area, which underlines the popularity of these customs.
Preparations begin two months before the market in the four Hemauer bakeries, where the dough preparations for the Spitzlarten usually start in September. In 2012, two pastry chefs and three helpers spent a week making it, showing the importance of the market to the local community.
Traffic regulations and offers
For the Spitzlmarkt, the city center will be closed to traffic from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Diversions will be set up via Riedenburger Straße, Karl-Maag-Straße and Kelheimer Straße. RVV lines 28 and 66 will be rerouted, with line 28 serving all stops and line 66 not serving the Hemau Kelheimer Straße stop.
The prices for the different Spitzl variations are usually between one euro for small Kuchenspitzl and 15 euros for large Tortenspitzl. Spitzl are also available in bakeries, especially during All Saints Week. The organizers expect many visitors at lunchtime, especially from the older generation, who will give the market additional importance.
The Hemauer Spitzlmarkt is an integral part of the cultural memory in Hemau and an example of the living tradition of autumn and farmers' markets that are celebrated in many regions this time of year. These markets often showcase homemade goods and local delicacies, as is also the case at the markets Aoste is described and offer an entertaining supporting program for young and old.
