Green waste containers: again from spring 2026 – final emptying is approaching!
On December 2, 2025 it was announced that the green waste containers would be available again from spring 2026. The last emptying of the containers for 2025 will take place on Friday, December 5th. However, for citizens who need immediate disposal options, there is the option of disposing of green waste at the recycling center all year round, during regular opening hours.
The use of green waste containers offers a practical solution for the disposal of garden waste, which is often generated in large quantities. For a container with a volume between 3 and 10 m³, a parking space of at least 3 m wide and 5 m long is required. In addition, the access must be at least 3 m wide to allow the truck to park the container.
Requirements for container placement
It is important that the truck usually requires a maneuvering distance of three car lengths in order to be able to set the container down backwards. A sufficient turning radius is also necessary, as trucks cannot drive into a driveway at a right angle. In addition, there should be a space of 5 m above the container to ensure problem-free positioning. It is not recommended to place the container in a carport or garage as this can cause damage to the surface.
Recycling options for green waste
Recycling green waste offers several options for material recovery. Among other things, the green waste is processed into high-quality compost. Fully automatic composting systems are used. The green waste and digestate are combined in a tube-like, dark room and constantly supplied with fresh air. This natural process generates heat and allows the material to turn into compost within three weeks.
In the final step, the compost produced is freed from impurities and prepared for transport. The high-quality, quality-assured compost is used in agriculture as well as in gardening and landscaping. There is also the possibility of using more woody and dry parts of the green waste as wood chips or shredded material in biomass power plants, which represents an equivalent alternative to fossil energy sources.
The reliable disposal of green waste using appropriate containers and innovative recycling processes is therefore an important waste management measure.
