Fiber optic expansion in Brennberg: Fast internet for everyone by 2025
A significant step in the digital infrastructure is imminent in Brennberg: In 2025, the entire municipal area will be connected to the state-of-the-art fiber optic network. This is a major step forward for the region as fast internet becomes increasingly important.
Laber Naab Infrastructure GmbH (LNI) will be responsible for the construction of the new fiber optic network. This company is an association of 47 municipalities and the Regensburg district, which also includes Brennberg and Wörth. The LNI will not only manage the project, but will also own the network once the work is completed.
Details about the fiber optic expansion
Telekom AG prevailed as the operator of the new network through an open tender process. This means that Telkom will take responsibility for operating the fiber optic network once it is completed.
An important point for residents is that every building that is considered eligible will receive a free fiber optic connection. This is happening as part of the federal government's Gigabit Directive, which aims to improve the digital infrastructure in Germany.
If you would like to know whether your building will receive a connection, you can check this via the LNI website. There is a special query there that is easy to use: www.lni.gmbh/standortabfrage.php.
To apply for the connection, every owner of an eligible property will receive a letter with a QR code. You can use this code to apply for connection online. It is important to enter and submit the required data by early October 2024.
The house connections are laid directly from the main route into the respective buildings, underground. Before construction work begins, the executing company will discuss all the details with the owners to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
Another advantage for residents is that they do not have to sign a new contract to use the fiber optic network. Existing contracts can continue to be used at the current surfing speed. However, anyone who wants to take advantage of the new network has the freedom to choose their provider.
