Reading hour for children in Barbing: Experience stories!

On Wednesday, October 8th, 2025, a special reading hour for children will take place in the Barbing community library. This event begins at 3:00 p.m. and will be offered every second Wednesday of the month. It is an ideal opportunity for young bookworms to immerse themselves in the world of stories and develop their reading skills. Registration for this event is not required, which makes access particularly easy. The community library is located at Kirchstraße 1, 93092 Barbing. If you have any questions, you can contact us by calling (09401) 1273 or by fax (09401) 80395. Library opening hours are Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The importance of story time

Reading lessons are not only a wonderful way to introduce children to stories, but are also essential for their linguistic development. Volunteers read aloud, which awakens the joy of reading and supports the children in learning to read. These events often take place in libraries, schools or daycare centers and are always themed. The aim is to promote children's creativity, imagination and concentration. Studies show that listening has a positive effect on linguistic expression and encourages children to engage with stories. Children also benefit from visual elements in books that help them better connect plot and characters.

In addition, reading lessons are an excellent method to support the integration process for children with a migrant background. Through regular reading events, language skills can not only be acquired but also consolidated. Committed people come together in the community to introduce children to the fascinating world of books and thus make an important contribution to promoting reading. Strengthening reading skills has far-reaching benefits, not only for children's current living conditions, but also for their future.

Commitment and participation

The opportunity to get involved in story times is not only in the interest of libraries, but also in the leisure activities of many. Those interested can not only read to children in daycare centers, but also read to older people in care facilities and thus share joy and stories. The Reading Foundation offers numerous tips and information for volunteers who would like to get involved in this area. There is also contact information for supporters to find out directly about opportunities to get involved. A contact person for questions is Lisa Keil, who can be reached at 06131-28890-78 or by email at lisa.keil@stiftunglesen.de.

The initiative to promote reading is not only a benefit for children, but also for the entire community, which grows together through reading together and shares the valuable treasure of literature.
