New communion helpers strengthen St. Mary's Church in Weiding
In the small community of Weiding there was a special occasion for joy on Sunday. St. Mary's Church, a central place of faith, welcomed two new members to the team of communion helpers. In his speech, Pastor Franz Merl emphasized the importance of volunteer work, which is essential for the functioning of the church. The two new helpers, Maria Schönberger and Helga Meier, have been sacristans for many years and bring a lot of experience and passion to their new role.
The two women have agreed to serve as communion assistants in addition to their previous duties as sacristans. This took place as part of a solemn service that brought the community together. Merl, who led the ceremony, was pleased that the two women, who have been active in the community's religious life for years, are now taking on this responsible task. In June, Schönberger and Meier had already attended an introductory course run by the diocese to prepare for their new roles.
A solemn service
The Sunday morning service was characterized by the message of Holy Scripture and the mystery of the Eucharist. During his sermon, Merl asked the two new communion helpers to the altar to hand them the official commissioning certificate from the church in Regensburg. This certificate symbolizes not only their new task, but also the wish that the Eucharistic sign of unity and love may enrich their lives.
In addition to the commission, there was also a special intercession for the new helpers, which underlined the solemn nature of the occasion. The communion song of thanks, played by Gabi Körner on the organ, also contributed to the festive atmosphere. Merl warmly thanked Schönberger and Meier for their commitment and also acknowledged the work of everyone else who works for the church throughout the year.
The congratulations came not only from Merl, but also from Andreas Engl, the treasurer of the church treasury, and mayor Daniel Paul. Both presented the new communion helpers with a Fátima candle as a small token of appreciation. St. Mary's Church, which celebrates its 65th anniversary this year, remains an important part of the community and a place where faith is kept alive.
