Art and nature united: exhibition by Katharina Gierlach in Tiefenbach”

An impressive opening took place in the Ludwig Gebhard Museum in Tiefenbach, which attracted many art lovers. Mayor Ludwig Prögler was visibly pleased with the large number of visitors, including the artist Katharina Gierlach, her father Dr. Paul Gierlach and the gallery owner Erika Davis-Klemm. Numerous local personalities, such as District Administrator Franz Löffler and former mayor Johann Müller, were also present to celebrate the opening of the exhibition “protected because of its beauty”.

The exhibition shows the works of Katharina Gierlach, who is known for her sculptural painting style and vibrant colors. Mayor Prögler emphasized that he had already been enthusiastic about an earlier work by the artist during his visits to the Tiefenbach sports center. The way Gierlach applies her oil paints reminds him of tasty soft serve ice cream, which makes him want to touch the images. He encouraged those present to take advantage of the cultural offerings in Tiefenbach all year round.

Insights into the artist and her works

Dr. Bärbel Kleindorfer-Marx, cultural officer at the Cham district office, praised Gierlach's high level of professionalism and the municipality's successful organization of the exhibition. She gave a brief overview of the artist's career, who gained practical experience at the Kebbel Villa in Schwandorf before her studies. Her studies with Ottmar Hörl in Nuremberg took her to different countries, where she found inspiration for her works of art. In Tiefenbach she presents pictures that are primarily inspired by irises and water lilies.

The title of the exhibition refers to a botanical book about irises and reflects the beauty of nature. The pasty oil paintings, which dry slowly, offer a sensual experience through their opulent application of paint. Gierlach also established a connection with Ludwig Gebhard, whose works she appreciates and who is also a source of inspiration for her. Her most recent works were created during a scholarship at Königshain Castle and include both large and small format images as well as cut-out flowers that can be arranged on the wall.

As part of the event, Mayor Prögler presented the artist with a canvas with a lace poppy as a thank you for her support. Other supporters of the museums were also presented with gifts to recognize their voluntary work. In his closing remarks, District Administrator Franz Löffler emphasized the importance of art and culture for society and praised the regional artists who do not forget their roots.

After the official opening, guests had the opportunity to view the works on a tour with the artist. With a small snack, those present were able to deepen their impressions and exchange ideas about the art.
