Stamsried introduces split wastewater fees: What does that mean for you?

There is a significant change in the calculation of wastewater fees in Markt Stamsried. So far, the fee has been set exclusively based on the so-called “fresh water standard”. This means that the fees are based on the amount of fresh water purchased, without taking into account how much rainwater accumulates on the properties and ends up in the sewer system. However, this method has proven to be inadequate as it does not reflect the actual volumes of wastewater.

The legal framework has changed and the courts now only accept the freshwater standard under certain conditions. In particular, the proportion of the costs for the drainage of rainwater in the total drainage costs must be low, a maximum of 12 percent. However, this is not the case in Stamsried, which means that the municipality has no choice: it must introduce the “split wastewater fee”.

What does the split wastewater fee mean?

The split wastewater fee is a system that calculates fees for wastewater and stormwater separately. This means that property owners are charged differently for the water they actually discharge into the sewer system and for the rainwater that occurs on their property. This change is intended to ensure a more equitable distribution of costs and increase incentives for rainwater use.
