Schorndorf Municipal Council: Construction projects and new paths for the region

At the last meeting of the local council before the summer break, important construction projects and the inclusion statutes for Knötzing were on the agenda. Despite the absence of five members, the Council had a quorum and was able to address the issues comprehensively.

A central topic was the planned demolition of the garage roof in Radling, Zum Pfahl 1, as well as the construction of a new apartment. However, the project deviates from the specifications of the “Radling I” development plan in several points, particularly with regard to the wall height and knee height. The local council decided to postpone the decision for the time being and recommended construction advice from the lower building supervisory authority in order to better adapt the project to the existing conditions.

Inclusion statutes and construction projects

Another point was the inclusion statutes for Knötzing, which was drawn up by the Dunst engineering firm. This was available for inspection for four weeks without any objections from the citizens. The authorities' statements were carefully examined and incorporated into the statutes. Since fundamental changes were no longer necessary, a new public interpretation could be dispensed with. The local council approved the statutes, which will come into force on July 31, 2024 and can be viewed in the town hall.

In addition, the access road in the “Radling Mitte” development area was discussed. This is scheduled to be finally completed on September 1, 2024 and dedicated as a local street with the name “Josef-Bücherl-Weg”. The street will be 66 meters long and there are no special restrictions on its use.

Another item on the agenda was the conversion of line 182 to a dial-a-bus system from September 1, 2024. Mayor Schmaderer praised the cooperation with the district utilities and the local service provider Raith, which makes it possible to offer a more environmentally friendly transport system. This change will also benefit the districts in neighboring communities.

Another important topic was the sewage treatment plant in Penting, which is to be expanded with a container system for biological purification. This will increase capacity to 1,000 population equivalents. The contract will be awarded to the most economical provider and the costs are estimated at around 75,000 to 80,000 euros.

The planned cycle and pedestrian paths in the community were also discussed. The expansion of a route from Schorndorf to Litzling is not feasible due to the topographical conditions and the high costs of around 800,000 euros. Instead, the aim is to create a pedestrian and cycle path along the CHA 8 district road, which should provide a connection to Roding and Schorndorf. In addition, a joint project is planned with the neighboring municipalities to build a cycle path “Am Pfahl”, which has a total length of almost three kilometers. The measure is eligible for funding and the local council unanimously decided to move forward with the planning.
