Microcensus 2024: Your voice counts – participation in our community!

In Bavaria, as in the rest of Germany, the 2024 microcensus has been running since January. This comprehensive household survey is the largest of its kind in official statistics and takes place annually. The data collected is crucial because it serves as the basis for important policy decisions that affect the lives of all citizens.

In total, around 120,000 people from around 60,000 randomly selected households will be surveyed in Bavaria. This survey aims to obtain an accurate picture of the living and working conditions of the Bavarian population. Around 70,000 people have already taken part in the survey and around 50,000 more people will be contacted by the end of the year. Some citizens in our community are also affected and receive a written invitation to participate, which can be done either by telephone or online.

Legal basis and data protection

The implementation of the microcensus is based on the Microcensus Act (MZG). It is important to know that the selected persons are obliged to participate in accordance with Section 13 of the Act. This means that any information not provided could affect the accuracy of the results. The law does not provide for any exceptions and data protection is guaranteed by strict statistical confidentiality measures. All data collected is anonymized and used exclusively for statistical purposes.

The municipal administration itself is not directly involved in the implementation of the microcensus. Instead, specially trained survey officers from the Bavarian State Office for Statistics are used to carry out the surveys.
