New pastor density in Kümmersbuch: A celebratory reception for Birner
The installation of the new pastor in the Hahnbach-Gebenbach-Ursulapoppenricht pastoral care unit was an event characterized by a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. The congregation came together to welcome Pastor Birner, and it was immediately noticeable that everyone present was in a celebratory mood.
Mayor Bernhard Lindner caused a few laughs right at the beginning when he pointed out that Pastor Birner will temporarily live in the small village of Kümmersbuch while the rectory in Hahnbach is being renovated. “This is probably the only community with such a high density of pastors,” he remarked with a smile, as the retired pastor Hans Peter Heindl also lives there.
A humorous introduction
After the ceremonial entry in the Golden Book, Pastor Birner had an amusing anecdote ready. He remembered his elementary school teacher always saying, “Typical!” and added that his “poor calligraphy” puts him first in the new book. “The next entries will have to be particularly beautiful to make up for it,” he said with a smile.
At the end of the service, Birner gave special praise to the “brave altar boys.” As a precaution, they had asked him in advance how long the celebration would last. To give them an idea, he compared the duration to a football game: “First the first half, then a break, followed by the second half and, if things go badly, a penalty shootout.”
A social gathering
“So, dear ones,” he said at the end of the Eucharistic celebration, “now there’s a penalty shootout!”, which made his thanks to all employees and fellow celebrants clear. However, the altar boys didn't seem to feel under pressure because they were still lively and active during the subsequent drink in the parish garden. It was evident that the celebrations were not just a formal affair, but also an opportunity to strengthen the community and celebrate together.
