Bavarian Dementia Weeks: A variety of events in the region!

Preparations for the sixth Bavarian Dementia Week are in full swing. From September 19th to October 27th, 2025, numerous events will take place in the Amberg city area and the Amberg-Sulzbach district to promote awareness of dementia and how to deal with the disease. This initiative aims to provide support and information to both those affected and their families.

Overall, the organizers expect a varied program. The Bavarian Dementia Weeks will kick off on September 19, 2025 with a flash mob on the Amberg market square, followed by opportunities for discussion for the public. The first day is rounded off with an afternoon at the cinema entitled “Laughing with Grandma and Grandpa” in the Ringtheater. The organizers of this event are the Gesundheitregionplus AM/AS network and the Bavarian State Office for Nursing, who work closely together to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and at the same time relieve the burden on family members.

A variety of events in Amberg and the surrounding area

A highlight of Dementia Week is the taster session “Exercise for Mind & Heart”, which will take place on September 22nd, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the rooms of the KEB Amberg-Sulzbach. This event is intended to show participants how targeted exercise can not only promote health, but also make everyday movements easier and improve quality of life. The KEB is pleased to be able to create the framework for all participants to get actively involved with a series of easy strengthening and coordination exercises.

Further events include a dementia course with information stands at the St. Marien Amberg Clinic on September 24th and a screening day at the Amberger Congress Center on October 27th. There will also be lectures on relevant topics, such as “Health care power of attorney and living will” in Freudenberg and “Changed eating behavior in dementia patients” in Hirschau.

Online offers and regional initiatives

In addition to the on-site events, online activities will also be offered, including a talk on “Sexuality in Old Age” on September 23rd. These digital formats expand access to information and enable broader public participation. Most activities are free and are aimed at people of all ages.

In addition to these events, the website will also be available movement-at-dementia.de highlighted as an important resource. It offers targeted information and instructions for physical training, which are particularly aimed at promoting everyday mobility and quality of life in people with mild to moderate dementia. The offerings include simple exercises that are not only suitable for people with dementia, but can also be useful for older people without dementia.

The Bavarian Dementia Week is an important step to raise awareness of the challenges that dementia brings with it and to promote discussion about it. The various events not only offer information, but also the opportunity to get in touch and find support.
