Participate and help shape: Citizen survey on solidarity in Bavaria

In rural areas of Bavaria, social cohesion is being scrutinized. An exciting research project launched by Nuremberg University of Technology aims to investigate the connections between people in these regions. The project, which runs until 2026, is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Community and offers citizens the opportunity to actively participate in research.

At the heart of the project is the question of how well people in rural areas are connected to one another. It's about the feeling of belonging and commitment to the common good. In order to research these aspects, three comprehensive surveys and four in-depth projects will be carried out. All voices are needed: long-time residents, newcomers, young and older people from villages and small towns should contribute their experiences and ideas.

How can you participate?

Participation in the surveys is open to all citizens of rural municipalities that are listed in the Bavarian State Development Plan (LEP). Those interested can take part in the surveys online via the project website. The first survey looking at local social relationships took place last year and the results are available on the website. The next round begins on September 14, 2024 and runs until October 14, 2024, with a focus on connecting people.

Why should citizens take part? The findings from this research project should be important for both citizens and politicians. They offer valuable insights into social structures and help to promote social cohesion in rural regions. The results will be continuously published on the project website so that everyone has the opportunity to find out about the progress and findings. The results report of the first survey as well as a brochure about everyday support for seniors through neighborhood help can already be viewed online.
