Cost explosion when converting the open all-day school in Illschwang!
The meeting of the Illschwang school association took place on February 23, 2026, in which central topics for the further development of schools in the region were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the upcoming renovation work for the open all-day school. According to preliminary calculations, the total investment amounts to 904,000 euros, with the costs for the renovation work being estimated at 827,000 euros and the furnishings at 77,000 euros.
The approval of the cost estimate and acceptance of the offer from H+F Architekten GmbH already amounted to 221,000 euros and was decided in April 2024. Initial cost calculations in September 2024 estimated the total costs including furniture at 435,000 euros. However, the costs rose to 625,000 euros in June 2025, which can be explained primarily by additional requirements during the planning process and stricter fire protection requirements.
Costs and subsidies
The preliminary final costs for the project were determined in November 2025 and amount to 904,000 euros. The Free State of Bavaria supports the project with funding of a maximum of 90% of the eligible costs for the renovation and 70% for the furnishing. This financial support is crucial to ensure the implementation of measures such as replacing the fire detection and alarm system and setting up a fire protection wall in the basement.
H+F Architects were commissioned to invite specialist firms to submit offers and the offers are currently being evaluated. The association meeting was given the power to accept the most economical offers.
Household matters
In further points at the meeting, the 2024 financial statements were presented. The administrative budget amounted to 511,980 euros against a budget estimate of 506,800 euros, while the capital budget was 337,000 euros, which is below the budget estimate of 360,100 euros. The overall budget for 2024 was therefore set at 849,205 euros, which differs from the planned budget of 866,900 euros.
In addition, an adjustment to the cost agreement with the Illschwang administrative community was decided, which will result in an increase in administrative costs from 26,000 euros to 29,100 euros, retroactively from January 1, 2025.
Another notable point was the resignation of Brigitte Bachmann-Mühlinghaus, who is resigning from her position as school association chairwoman and is not running for mayor again. She expressly thanked the committee members and the caretaker Alwin Utz for the constructive cooperation during her term of office.
The open all-day school in Illschwang has been in operation since the beginning of the school year, while other communities are still planning. This shows the commitment and willingness of the Illschwang school association to invest in the development of the school infrastructure at an early stage.
