From September 25, 2025, drivers will have the opportunity to exchange their old driving licenses in Aichach for the new EU driving licenses. This exchange day takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Aichach-Friedberg District Office, Münchener Str. 9. The municipality of Ried informs that the following documents are required for the exchange: the original driver's license, a printed biometric photo, a valid identification document and, for class T, the contribution notice from the professional association.

The administration fees for the exchange are €39.82 for unlimited card driving licenses and €32.82 for paper driving licenses. The latter can still be changed on the exchange day despite the deadline having expired. It is important that unlimited card driving licenses issued between 1999 and 2001 must be exchanged by January 19, 2026.

Exchange periods in detail

According to the federal government, all car and motorcycle licenses issued before January 19, 2013 must be exchanged by January 19, 2033. This regulation aims to create a uniform and forgery-proof driving license design across the EU. Different deadlines apply to driving licenses issued from January 1, 1999:

Older driving licenses issued up to December 31, 1998 also have specific deadlines depending on the year of birth of the holder. For example, driver's licenses issued before 1953 must be exchanged by January 19, 2033.
