Mering Library receives gold seal for outstanding reading promotion
The Mering library recently received an important award: the golden library seal of the Saint Michael Association. This honor recognizes the outstanding work of the library team, which is committed to promoting reading and cultural education in the community. Of a total of 24 criteria set, an impressive 22 were met, which underlines the high quality of the services offered.
The golden seal is not only awarded for outstanding library work, but was also awarded this year for the first time to libraries in cities with more than 10,000 inhabitants. The Mering Library is the only member library in the Diocese of Augsburg to have received this award. Under the leadership of Christine Hieke and Frauke Niederhofer, the team has met a variety of requirements, ranging from statistical data and usage behavior to an appealing media offering and a variety of events.
Outstanding usage figures
The usage figures for the Mering library are particularly noteworthy: around 25% of the population in Mering actively uses the library's offerings. For comparison: the Bavarian average is only 11%. These figures show how important the library is for the community and how well it is accepted by citizens.
The ceremonial handover of the seal took place in the presence of Mayor Florian Mayer and Pastor Dr. Florian Markter. Graduate librarian Peter Hart presented the golden seal and praised the team for their commitment to making the library a place of well-being and education in Mering. “This award is recognition for the great work you do here every day,” emphasized Hart in his speech.
Christine Hieke received the certificate with great joy and warmly thanked her team and her predecessor Brunhilde Waeber. She also highlighted the support of the community as a sponsor and the Catholic Church as a sponsor of the library. “It is only possible to achieve excellent library work through joint, tireless commitment,” says Hieke. Mayor Mayer and Pastor Markter joined in the words of praise and congratulated the Mering library on this special award.
