Gärtnerstraße in Griesbeckerzell: closed to pedestrians until December 19th!

In the Griesbeckerzell district of Aichach, temporary restrictions for pedestrians will apply from December 1, 2025. The western section of Gärtnerstraße will be closed until December 19th, with this measure only affecting pedestrian traffic. The affected area is not permitted for cars as this section is designed purely as a footpath and cycle path. This closure was necessary to carry out necessary construction work, such as the community [aichach.de].

At the same time as this measure, crucial construction work on the Kulturgraben is also beginning in neighboring Aichach. Measures are to be taken here in several construction phases so that water that accumulates during heavy rain can drain away better. The first construction phase will lead to the complete closure of part of Haunswieser Straße from August 25, 2025. This work is part of the flood protection project initiated by the city [augsburger- Allgemeine.de](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/aichach/baubeginn-am-kulturgraben-haunswieser-strasse-wird-fuer-hochwasserschutz-gesperrt-110597914) and is intended to improve the safety of residents.

Importance of the measures

Flood protection in the region is taking on an increasingly central role, especially given the more frequent heavy rainfall events observed in recent years. The planned work on the Kulturgraben shows how important it is to make infrastructural adjustments in order to meet nature's weather-related challenges.

In addition, extensive construction work to improve flood protection and to renovate the Marzili outdoor swimming pool will begin in the city of Bern in autumn 2025. These projects are also designed to ensure water security and are expected to be completed by 2033. The construction loan for the flood protection project is 148.86 million francs, and the first construction phase is scheduled to start on September 1, 2025. In addition, a swimming and boating ban will be introduced on the Aare, which extends from Eichholz to the Dalmazi Bridge, in order to secure the construction sites from September 22, 2025 bern.ch.

Through these massive investments, the municipality of Aichach and the city of Bern show how important it is to prepare for weather-related challenges. The cost-saving measures are not only time-stipulated, but also include sustainable aspects, such as the preservation of valuable tree species during the bank path reconstruction and reforestation after the projects have been completed.
