New flood area Wörthhof”: flood protection for the Danube!
In a crucial step to improve flood protection in the region, the city of Wörth an der Donau has announced the designation of a flood area for the controlled retention area “Wörthhof”. The official regulation will be published on October 30, 2025 and affects the left bank of the Danube in the area of kilometers 2,347.7 to 2,357.3.
Affected areas are the city of Wörth on the Danube and the municipality of Pfatter in the Regensburg district. This measure is part of a comprehensive concept for flood polder sites along the Danube, which aims to preserve retention areas and effectively ward off flood hazards. The total area of the designated floodplain area is 768.1 hectares, while the planned volume of the retention area is approximately 29.8 million cubic meters.
Public interpretation and citizen participation
The ordinance will be available for public review from November 10 to December 9, 2025. During this time, interested citizens have the opportunity to find out more about the interpretation documents. These include the draft ordinance, an explanatory report, a property register as well as overview maps and detailed maps. Access to the documents is possible both online and in the town halls of the affected communities.
Comments and objections can be submitted until December 23, 2025, followed by a discussion date after this deadline. The mayor of the city of Wörth emphasizes: “The determination of the flood area is an important step for the sustainable development of our region and shows our commitment to flood protection.” It is important to note that this measure should not be viewed as a final decision on the planning approval process for the flood polder.
In addition, it was noted that the temporary security of the area, which had been in force since April 8, 2015, was in effect until April 8, 2022. The aim is to continuously improve the infrastructural measures to avert danger. This initiative is evidence of the municipality's efforts to continually optimize flood protection in the region and ensure the safety of the population.
